Amended Bylaws Voting Results

The Illinois State Genealogical Society has completed the general membership voting on the Amended Bylaws. In Article XIII, the Bylaws may be amended if the proposed changes are presented to the membership in writing at least 30 days prior to the vote.  The proposed amendments were emailed to Society members on September 14, 2016. Voting was held by email from Thursday, October 13, 2016 to Thursday, October 20, 2016. There were 255 votes cast. Of those, 11 were voided for reasons such as duplicate votes or the submitter was not on the membership list as of Oct 13, 2016.

The results are as follows:

In Favor – 240
Against – 0
Abstain – 4

Under Article XIII, two-thirds of the votes must be in favor of the proposed amendments to pass. The motion to accept the amended bylaws has passed.

Respectfully Submitted,

Laura Kovarik

October 2016 ISGS Webinar - Midwestern GeBack Issues of Genealogical, Historical and Sociological Journals

October 2016 ISGS Webinar - Midwestern Gems: Back Issues of Genealogical, Historical and Sociological Journals

Title:  Midwestern Gems: Back Issues of Genealogical, Historical and Sociological Journals

Date: Tuesday, October 11, 2016, 8:00 pm Central

Description: Many years of social history, local/state history, military, and other serials aid in studying migration, land, military, churches, railroads, cemeteries, and other aspects of Midwestern ancestry. A plethora of FREE specialized finding aids, print and online access, and indexes exist. A journal might not mention a specific ancestor but may tell the story of a battle, town disturbance, or dispute in which an ancestor took part or observed. It might detail the history of a business or of a cemetery and list early burials.

Presenter: Paula Stuart-Warren, CG, FMGS, FUGS

Paula Stuart-Warren is a professional genealogist specializing in genealogical and historical research, lecturing, consulting, and writing. Her lectures, research, and consultations for individuals, societies, law firms, and Indian tribes seeking records and advice has taken her to many states, courthouses, archives, historical societies, and libraries. She is a voracious reader of historical and genealogical periodicals. Paula is the intermediate Course Coordinator for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh and teaches in other courses at both institutes. She has lectured at National Genealogical Society and Federation of Genealogical Societies conferences, and in many states and Canada on a variety of topics.
